Multiple Action Research Group works on socio-legal issues related to poor and marginalized groups. Since its establishment in 1985 under the Societies Registration Act 1860, MARG has worked both at the mass level and at the level of policy makers. MARG's strength lies in its sustained interactions at the grassroots on a variety of issues cross-cutting urban and rural communities. This has given it a nuanced understanding of micro level issues, which can then be linked up with macro level issues, debates and decisions.

Much is in a name, we would say. Perhaps it has been the acronym 'MARG'- Hindi for 'path'- that has subconsciously shaped our destiny and tempted us to go the many ways that we have. At the cost of compromising modesty, we may say that over the last twenty years we have tread paths that have led to MARG being a forerunner in many fields since its registration in 1985 under the Societies Registration Act.
